Topography
Spread over an area of around 450sqkm in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh?s uneven topography consists of sharp crested hills & narrow valleys, caves, swampy meadows, and sandstone formations. Around 20 streams flow through the park.

Vegetation
Thick Sal forests form the major vegetation of the park. In the higher regions, the vegetation changes to Saja, Salai, and Dhobin, etc while vast stretches of grassland meadows and bamboo thickets dominate the north of the park.

Inhabitants of Bandhavgarh National Park

Mammals and Other Species
Around 37 species of mammals including tigers, spotted deer, Sambar deer, nilgai, wild boar, chinkara, sloth bear, rhesus macaque, black faced langur, jungle cat, and hyena inhabit the park. It is believed that every white tiger in the world can trace their ancestry back to Bandhavgarh.

Birds of Bandhavgarh
Steppe eagles, orange-headed thrush, coppersmith barbet, browed fantails, green pigeons, black & white Malabar hornbills, white bellied drongos, green bee-eaters, black stork, owls, paradise flycatchers, and giant leaf bird may be spotted in Bandhavgarh.

Tiger Safari in Bandhavgarh
Bandhavgarh is divided into three core safari zones; namely Tala, Magadhi and Khitauli. Open Jeeps and canters (open vans) are available for Jungle safaris. Bandhavgarh Fort
Built on a plateau, this 2000 years-old fort is shrouded in legends and mystery. A combination of two words Bandhav (Brother) & Garh (Fort), Bandhavgarh finds mention in the ancient religious texts is believed to have been built by Lord Rama for his younger brother Laxmana. Littered with ancient caves and statues, the ruins of this magnificent fort are quite alluring.

Bhaghela Museum
This museum showcases the private collection of the Maharaja of Rewa. A stuffed white tiger, Mohan; military and hunting gear; a carved ivory and silver chess set; and an extravagant swing bench made of Belgian cut glass and silver are some of the items displayed.

Best time to Visit
Bandhavgarh National Park is open for visitors from 15th October to 30th June. The park is closed during monsoons.

By Air- Jabalpur Airport, around 160kms from Bandhavgarh National Park, is the closest airport.
By Rail- Umaria Railway Station, around 35kms from Bandhavgarh, is the closest railhead connecting the national park to cities in the region.
