The History
Ruled by various dynasties, from the Gopalas to the Kirtas and from the Licchavis to the Mallas; Nepal was finally unified by Gorkhas under the Shah dynasty who reigned supreme for around 150 years. The Shah dynasty was overthrown by the Maoist rebels and Nepal was declared a democracy in May 2008.
