Pushkar Cattle Fair
Organized in the month of Karthik (October/November) as per the lunar calendar, this humongous cattle fair is a regular carnival with an array of musicians, magicians, dancers, acrobats, snake charmers and carousel rides to entertain the crowd. The comical camel beauty competitions, longest moustache competitions and camel races are the highlights of the fair. In recent years, a football match between the local Pushkar Club and a team of foreign tourists has become a hotspot of the fair.
Pushkar Lake
Born when Brahma dropped a lotus on the earth, Pushkar Lake is considered the most sacred lake in India. Its banks are dotted with hundreds of temples and bathing ghats and its waters are believed to have medicinal properties. During the holy Karthik month, thousands of devotees take a dip in the lake to wash away their sins.
Brahma Temple
Marked by a red spire and a swan at the entrance, this is the only temple in the country dedicated to Lord Brahma. Built with marble and decorated with silver coins, this 2000-years-old temple is considered to be one of the five sacred pilgrimage destinations for the Hindus.
Savitri Temple
Dedicated to Lord Brahma’s first wife, this temple is accessible either by a ropeway or by a short trek up the hill. The hilltop offers panoramic views of the lake, surrounding temples and sand dunes.
