Diskit Gompa
A winding spaghetti-like road takes you to Diskit Gompa, a Gelugpa sect monastery. This monastery dates back to 14th century and is the largest & the oldest monastery in the region. Stunning valley views and a 106ft colorful statue of Maitreya Buddha are the highlights of this beautiful monastery.
Hundur Gompa
Hundur Gompa, though geographically in Hundur Village, is situated pretty close to Distik Gompa. Ancient whitewashed stupas and pretty Mani walls (prayer stones) lead you to the main shrine of the monastery.
Hundur Sand Dunes
The white sand dunes between Diskit and Hundur are quite surreal with Bactrian camels or the two humped camels complementing the landscape. A Bactrian camel ride in the dunes of Hundur is once in a lifetime experience.
Samstemling Gompa
Samstemling Gompa is situated about 1 km uphill from the nearby village of Sumur. This 150-year old Gompa has been recently renovated and its large complex houses an impressive collection of frescos, Thangakas (Budhhist paintings) and sacred scrolls.
Pramanik Hot water Springs
The picturesque Pramanik village is known for its hot water sulfur springs that are believed to have medicinal properties. Bathrooms & shower facilities are provided for bathing in the therapeutic waters here.
Yarab Tso Lake
One of the hidden gems of Nubra valley, this pretty lake in Sumur village is accessible after a quick trek up the hill. Considered sacred amongst locals, the lakeside is marked with colorful prayer flags. Crystal waters, spellbinding backdrop and soothing tranquility of this spot is simply amazing.
