The Topography
The lay of land at Kanha is quite undulated with grassy hills with plateaus, vast meadows, myriad streams, three rivers and numerous perennial springs.

Vegetation
The jungles of Kanha are largely tropical-moist deciduous with vast open grasslands and thick bamboo forests. Sal, Lendia, Saja, Tendu, Palas, Mahua, Dhawa, Bija, Achar, Aonla, and Kullu trees abound the forest. Kanha is also home to many aquatic plants in its numerous lakes.

Mammals and Other Species
Besides the Royal Bengal Tiger lurking in the dense jungles of Kanha, the park is known for its preservation & revival of the Swamp Deer or Barasingha that was almost extinct from the planet. A large number of leopards, sloth bear, deer, chital, hyena, jungle cat, sambar, and, nilgai also inhabit the park.

Birds of Kanha National Park
Around 300 species of birds flock in this beautiful park. Black ibis, bee-eaters, cattle egret, blossom-headed parakeets, whistling teal, minivets, pied hornbill, red-wattled lapwing, steppe eagle, Tickell's blue flycatcher, white-eyed buzzard, white-breasted kingfisher, white-browed fantail, wood shrikes, and warblers are some of the birds that can be spotted in Kanha National Park.

Safari in Kanha National Park
The park is divided into four zones to facilitate wildlife safari. Jeep Safaris, Elephant Safaris and Open Van Safaris; all take you on an adventure with qualified and experienced naturalists. Trackers also arrange Tiger Shows after successful tiger sightings, wherein the visitors can watch a tiger for 10-15 minutes while sitting on an elephant back.

Best time to Visit

Kanha National Park is open to visitors from 16th October to 30th June. The peak tourist season starts from October and continues till March.
