The legend goes that after defeating his Uncle Kansa, Lord Krishna migrated with the entire Yadav clan to the coast of western Saurashtra and reclaimed land from the sea God to establish the golden city of Dwarka. However, the mythological city was believed to be submerged underwater after Lord Krishna departed for his heavenly abode.

Dwarkadhish Temple
This Krishna temple is believed to have been built around 2500 ago at the place of Lord Krishna?s dwelling. It was later damaged by Muslim invaders and was subsequently rebuilt in the 16th century. Its main shrine, supported by 72 columns, is known as Jagat Mandir. This five storied building, embellished with exquisite carvings, houses a meter-long black idol of Lord Krishna as Ranchhodrai, the ruler of Dwarka.
Rukmini Devi Temple
This ancient temple is dedicated to Rukmini, the wife of Lord Krishna and the manifestation of Goddess Lakshmi. The temple is richly carved with sculptures of various gods and goddesses and houses the image of Rukmini in the main sanctum.
Bet Dwarka or Shankhodhar Island
It is believed to have been the actual residential place of Lord Krishna during his reign at Dwarka. Accessible by a 20 minutes ferry ride, the island is dotted with a huge number and variety of conch shells. Numerous Hindu and Jain shrines are located on the island.
