Hasanamba Temple
A manifestation of Goddess Shakti, Hasanamba, who lent her name to the city, is the much revered deity of Hasan. Enshrined in a 12th century temple, the Goddess meets her devotees only once a year in October during the Diwali festival.
Chenna Keshava Temple
Literally translating into “Handsome Keshava”, this 12th century temple pays obeisance to Lord Vishnu, manifested as Keshava. Located in Belur, around 39kms from Hassan, the temple was built by the Hoysala ruler, Vishnuvardhana. Its 48 uniquely carved pillars, and intricate wall sculptures, referring to important events from the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, are quite remarkable.
Gommateshwara Statue
This colossal statue of the Jain saint Bahubali, also known as Gommateshwara, is a symbol of sacrifice. Located in Shravanbelagola, around 50kms from Hassan city, this 17m high statue is much venerated by the followers of Jainism.
Hoysaleswara Temple
Located in Halebid, around 32kms from Hassan, this Shiva temple is named after the Hoysala ruler King Vishnuvardhana who built the temple. Intricate carvings, exquisite sculptures, detailed reliefs and impressive colonnade of Hoysaleswara Temple are an outstanding example of Hindu temple architecture.
